4pets dog crates are crash-tested in accordance with the
international ECE-R17 standard and certified by TÜV SÜD.
This isn’t just marketing. It’s what sets us apart.
✓ TÜV SÜD Certified
✓ ECE-R17 Crash Test
✓ Swiss-Made
✓ Developed for over 25 years
ECE-R17 is an international vehicle safety standard established by the UN Economic Commission for Europe. It defines how restraint systems in vehicles must withstand a collision—originally developed for seats and seatbelt systems, it is now also applied to pet restraint systems.
For dog crates, this is the most rigorous and objective safety certification available.
No logo, no promise—just a reproducible, documented test under laboratory conditions.
1: Sled test at 50 km/h (31 mph)
The dog crate is mounted in the vehicle body and subjected to a deceleration sled—the forces correspond to a real-world frontal collision.
2: Measurement of deceleration forces
Acceleration values, displacement of the crate, and the integrity of all components—doors, locks, connectors, rear wall—are measured.
3: TÜV SÜD certification
The crate receives certification only if all limit values are met. No exceptions, no compromises.
⚠️ For comparison:
A cheap dog crate from Asia has not undergone any of these tests.
In the event of a crash, it can become an uncontrolled projectile—with an impact mass of 300 kg (661.4 lbs)–400 kg (882 lbs) at 50 km/h
(31 mph), depending on the model
(depending on the size of the crate and the dog).
Some dog crate manufacturers advertise their products as “TÜV- tested” — this simply means that a test was conducted, not that it was passed.
4pets dog crates are TÜV-certified: the test was conducted, all criteria were met, and the certificate was issued.
What the TÜV actually inspects at 4pets.
TÜV SÜD does more than just conduct crash tests. The certification process covers over 20 criteria, ranging from material quality to the user manual. That is the difference between true safety and a printed symbol.
Only when all criteria are met is 4pets permitted to display the TÜV seal. Every new model generation is retested—there is no one-time blanket license.

⚠️ Important to know:
In Switzerland and Germany, there is no legal requirement to crash-test dog crates.
This means that anyone can sell a box with a safety guarantee without ever having conducted a test.
The TÜV seal and ECE-R17 certification are the only objective proof that a box delivers what it promises.
The PRO line’s intelligent special back panel has been crash-tested separately and absorbs impact energy in a targeted manner. In the event of a collision, the box remains stable in a controlled manner—not rigid, but yielding where necessary.
The Safelock system is the crash-tested door lock from the PRO line. It can be operated with one hand yet is sturdy enough to withstand a head-on collision. The door stays closed—always.
The corner connectors, made of fiberglass-reinforced plastic, are securely bolted to the aluminum profiles. This connection forms the backbone of the box—and is crucial to ensuring that the structure does not break upon impact.
Specially designed aluminum profiles with an anodized protective coating. Extremely lightweight yet highly durable. Rust-free and silent even on bumpy roads.
All materials used comply with the European REACH Regulation regarding the absence of harmful substances. TÜV SÜD independently verifies this—to ensure your dog’s health on every ride.
Thanks to the included StrapFix, the crate won’t slide around, even during sudden braking. Not only is your dog protected—everyone else in the vehicle is too.

Independent reviews
80% — Excellent
The Swiss Touring Club evaluates dog crates based on strict safety and quality criteria. The 4pets PRO NOIR received an overall rating of “excellent.”
Best Value for Money
The Swiss TV show “Kassensturz” named 4pets PRO NOIR the best value for money in a comparison test of various dog crates.
Grade 1.8
The renowned automotive magazine Auto Bild tested the 4pets CAREE and awarded it a grade of 1.8—“good”—in all relevant categories.
Yes. The PRO NOIR was subjected to a skid test at 50 km/h in accordance with the international ECE-R17 safety standard and passed the test—certified by TÜV SÜD (Certificate B 029106 0030).
The PRO NOIR Safelock door locking system is part of the crash test—the lock must withstand a head-on collision without opening. This is an official TÜV testing criterion.
Yes. The ECO model has the same TÜV SÜD certificate (B 029106 0029) under ECE-R17 as the PRO line—it undergoes exactly the same crash test at 50 km/h (31 mph).
No, provided it is secured using the included StrapFix lashing kit—that is how it was secured in the TÜV crash test. Securing the item in the vehicle is an official test criterion.
The Caree is designed for small dogs and cats weighing up to 15 kg
(33 lbs) and has been tested and certified by TÜV SÜD in accordance with ECE-R17 (Certificate Z1B 029106 0022)—the same independent testing procedure used for the larger models.
Yes. In addition to the sled test at 50 km/h (31 mph), the certification process also includes road tests on the Belgian block test track at 25 km/h (15,5 mph)—these tests verify that the box does not shift, does not deform, and that the doors remain closed.
EasySteps has been tested and certified by TÜV SÜD
(Certificate Z1 16 03 29106 014) — surface safety and stability are part of the testing process.
The ramp allows for controlled entry and exit without having to jump—which significantly reduces strain on the joints, especially for large, heavy, or older dogs.
