On Saturday, 19 September 2026, Brüggli in Romanshorn opens its doors – and the dog crates of its own brand 4pets are in the spotlight. It is a rare chance to see not just the finished product in your boot, but the halls, the machines and, above all, the people behind them.

The programme includes a guided tour of the headquarters and insights into assembly, mechanics, logistics, textiles, and maintenance and technology – exactly the areas where a 4pets crate takes shape step by step. Add to that lunch dishes from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., live music and a quiz scavenger hunt with answers hidden along the tour. Whether you travel with a dog or simply want to know what „Swiss quality" really means, you get an honest look behind the scenes.

Who is behind 4pets

4pets is the own brand of Brüggli, a non-profit association and one of the most versatile training and integration companies in Switzerland. That is the decisive difference from anonymous mass production.

In Romanshorn on Lake Constance, around 800 people work, including some 250 apprentices in more than 40 professions. The mission behind it is as simple as it is powerful: to give people with health-related limitations a professional future. Since 2006, 4pets has been developing products for safe dog transport in this environment – today more than 50 items around transport, safety and health. How a 4pets dog crate is made

Development, manufacturing and final inspection all take place at Brüggli's ISO-certified industrial facility in Switzerland – by hand and with time, not on a production-line clock.

That is exactly why the crates last: there is time for clean workmanship and for a real final inspection before a crate leaves the building. Safety here is not a claim but tested – 4pets crates are crash-tested and TÜV certified to the TÜV SÜD standard (ECE-R17).

In concrete terms that means durable materials, well-thought-out details and handcraft instead of mass production. What is made here has grown over the years – from the first dog-crate lines in 2006 to today's range of more than 50 products. PRO NOIR – the rugged aluminium crate for the boot

The PRO NOIR is the sturdy aluminium crate for the boot of estates and SUVs – and the flagship of the Swiss production.

It is tested by TÜV SÜD to ECE-R17 and passed the sled test at 50 km/h (certificate B 029106 0030). Anodised aluminium struts and glass-fibre-reinforced plastics make it light and crash-resistant at the same time. The TCS rated it „excellent", and on the Swiss consumer show Kassensturz it won best price-performance. Handy in everyday use: the lockable lock is included as standard – so you can leave the boot open for a through-draught while the crate stays secured. That makes it especially suited to medium-sized and large dogs, who get their own fixed spot in the boot – a kind of den, like the basket at home, that takes the nervousness out of travelling for many dogs. ECO – the lighter entry-level crate

The ECO is the lighter entry-level crate for the car – a solid start into safe dog transport from Swiss production.

It comes from the same facility and the same care as the PRO NOIR but is deliberately kept slimmer. The lockable lock can be retrofitted if needed, so the proven advantage applies here too: boot open for fresh air, crate still secured. More on the ECO.

CAREE – the safe crate for the seat

The CAREE is the single crate for the back seat – fastened directly in the passenger cell with a seat belt or ISOFIX, developed for cats and small dogs.

Designed by Swiss engineers, it is tested by TÜV SÜD to ECE-R17 (certificate Z1B 029106 0022) and, in addition to the sled test at 50 km/h, also passed the Belgian-block driving test at 25 km/h – without slipping, deforming or the door opening. With a belt it is approved up to 8 kg, with ISOFIX/LATCH up to 15 kg. Integrated belt guides, a two-way front door and an adjustable rear wall make it practical for everyday use; the dimensions are about 47 × 47 × 57 cm (W/H/D). Auto Bild gave it a grade of 1.8.
